(1st Entry)
The quest towards an authentic identity. It becomes a suspicious riddle.

     “Authentic identity”. Now that sounds…funny.

The problem of suicide and the quest for an identity. Is suicide limited to doing it yourself? Could it be looking for someone else to do the dirty work for you? And could it also be someone behind the curtains doing the work you don’t want done, but have no choice than to accept it?

The search for meaning, and the use of common or humane sense. One cannot necessarily rely on history for an identity or meaning: For one to be of the present times, beyond heavy classifications and worrisome loyalty. But still, from the stories of yore one can begin the work of developing a sense of self, place, and meaning – for the present. And come closer to subtle continuity (that my ancestors, and the ancestors of others, have spoken about).

So my homie says people tell him he’s “acting white”. Another of my homie says people tell her she “acts black”. And then there is the sexual politics. Gender. Economics too. All very interesting. I wouldn’t call stereotypical remarks stupid. They just tell an incomplete story. I mean, am I “black” now because I use the word homie? Am I “yellow” trying to be “black” because I speak of ancestors? Or am I a “lesbian” because I scribbled down “sexual politics”?

I have never really considered Hip-Hop with any depth. Peculiar…I have enjoyed some of the music (for various reasons) for some time now. But Hip-Hop a culture? Never really made sense to me. At least, I am barely knowledgeable on Hip-Hop

If I take the time to listen to the music like I do, maybe I should become more cognizant of its history?

Read a few books? Re-listen to a few classics?
